Now that you've seen our beautiful cats and kittens, it's time for an introduction. Since we are not a shelter, how is this arranged?
There are 3-4 ways. It starts by contacting us to see where your selected cat is. It maybe in the Pet Supermarket adoption cage on U.S. 41 in Venice where it is easily seen during their business hours. www.petsupermarket.com.
See our adoptable pets on Petfinder.org.
Or the cat or kitten could be in one of our foster homes. You usually can see a photo on Petfinder.com. www.petfinder.com. Simply enter our zip codes, 34293, and go to the shelter named Key West Cat Society - Venice Cat Coalition. We attempt to keep the list current, but sometimes our cats get adopted so quickly that the list is incomplete.
If the cat is in foster, we can either arrange for you to see it at the weekly Farmer's Market in Venice, where we show 2-6 of our cats each Saturday morning. Or at one of our public events. Or we can arrange a visit to a foster home. Because these visits involve a lot of time and planning on our part, we require that you demonstrate a serious interest in adopting by completing the pre-adoption screen on our website, see Adopting a Cat page, and make a $15 donation to the Key West Cat Society in advance of your visit. If you choose not to adopt that day, the donation goes to help the cats. If you adopt, we apply the screening fee toward your adoption.
How much is the adoption fee?
As of March 15, 2010, each cat and kitten costs $85 to adopt from the Key West Cat Society. This covers: spay-neuter, combo testing, defleaing, deworming, 2 vaccines, rabies, FeLk vaccination, and microchipping. We have decided to add the expensive FeLK vaccine to our protocol because it is in the best interest of the cats, but this has raised our adoption fee by $10.
With our cats, microchipping is automatically included. Your adoption fee includes microchip registration to our non-profit. For an additional fee, you are encouraged to go online and register your new pet directly to yourself, so that you receive a call, the first call, if your cat is lost or in trouble. www.petlink.com.
